In support of the Microsoft OneVersion upgrade strategy (One Version Service Update Changes) there has been, and continues to be, a continued drive to maintain alignment with the standard application and therefore minimise the risks when upgrade (Embracing the “Adopt not Adapt” approach in ERP implementation). Some of the most commonly customised areas of old, …

Going with the (Work)flow Editor
For a D365 F&O end user, workflows are pretty natural. You fire off your purchase order and it lands in the approvers’ job list ready to be approved, modified or rejected. It’s a straightforward and integral part of any mature ERP solution.
But what pain do us consultants and administrators go through to make that process work so smoothly?! I give you… the Workflow Editor.
Unlocking the Secrets of D365 F&O: System Table Browser
Here it is – the System Table Browser! What is it and why should you care? Read on! Now, let’s be clear, if you’ve been specialised in D365 F&O for more than ~12 months, you already know this (I would hope), but bizarrely, this powerful feature is tucked away in the documentation, so seems to …

There’s gold to be found in those grid views!
Our posts about making the most of data in F&O (via the interface only) have been getting a lot of love from the community, with “Filtering in D365 F&O” and “If you can’t beat ’em, get joining some tables!” proving to be among our most popular posts to date. The Advanced filter or sort form …

If you can’t beat ’em, get joining some tables!
You can’t always get all the information you want or need from one table or default view in F&O. For example, viewing the Open purchase order lines form gives valuable access to all lines, across all purchase orders, that have the status “Open order”. But what would you do if you wanted to filter on …

Stand aside developers, we’ve got this!
Taking full advantage of Microsoft’s OneVersion continuous updates is predicated on the expectation that businesses, and their solutions, have primarily aligned with the adopt not adapt approach. The F&O solution has evolved to support organisations and partners on this journey with features such as configurable business documents; addressing the almost constant need for output documents …
A spectacular survey of sales orders
If you’re trying to learn about a new system like D365 F&O, whether as a junior consultant or an end user, it’s not easy! First you need a sandbox environment that’s safe to “play” in, then you need a user with a security role with sufficient permissions to see and test all of the options …
Don’t take offence! How to manage personalisations
One of the most powerful features of D365 F&O is the ability to personalise and tailor the user experience. This can have huge benefits ranging from increased process efficiencies to accelerated user adoption. However, as with any tailoring capabilities, realising their full potential often requires an element of control. Allowing too much autonomy can compromise …

Supercharge your F&O user experience with Power Platform
Repeat after me, “Power Platform is not the sole preserve of D365 CE consultants!”
I still find it necessary to remind our good friends in the D365 CE camp that although Power Automate, Power Apps, and Dataverse, owe their origins to the D365 CRM/xRM platform, they are now for everyone. Equally, it has been hard to draw D365 F&O consultants into the Power Platform, as it’s historically perceived as “something the CE folk deal with”.
Imagine my delight when I learnt about the recent release of “Extending Dynamics 365 Finance and Operation Apps with Power Platform”, by Adrià Ariste Santacreu.
D365 F&O – Let’s make it personal!
The adoption of a modern day tier 1 ERP system such as Dynamics 365 F&O has numerous advantages when it comes to the streamlining and standardisation of the technology stack. However, when users move from many single purpose systems to one which can manage the entire end to end business operations, it can be overwhelming. …
